Alexa Skill Connections

Alright, hey guys, Mark Phillips with SimpliSpoken back again for another SimpliSpoken on Voice Daily Flash Briefing, and we’re talking today about the recent release of the skill connections for Amazon Alexa. And so skill connections, they announced this at an event recently. And now developers are able to take advantage of some features where you can extend the functionality of a skill by calling a connected set of functionality to the skill. So an example might be if you’d like to take advantage of someone else’s printing service. So they’ve got a couple of task available in skill connections are really three task, there’s the print image, the print, PDF, and the print web page. And so you can call out to those skills that basically are connected and extend the functionality of your skill. And then they have a couple that they’ve released, where you can call out to a reservation for taxi, you can call out for a reservation for a restaurant. So this is basically a way to let folks develop functionality around a few things that you don’t have to develop yourself. And then you call out to that functionality, and take advantage of it. So this gives folks the ability to become providers, like if you think about HP, or canon, or Epson might be a provider of print connections. And folks like Uber might be a provider for transportation connections. And folks like Open Table may be a provider for restaurant connections. And so it’s an interesting extension model. It’s kind of limited at this point, but interesting in terms of philosophy and direction. And that is this idea that users have a voice experience or trying to get something done and the ability to orchestrate something to fulfill not just a one shot task but a an entire goal-based experiences interesting and something candidly that Samsung seems to be a little bit all over. So it’s interesting to see Alexa and Amazon releasing this kind of functionality now. So hey, this is the SimpliSpoken on Voice Daily Flash Briefing, please do hop over to skill store and give us good review. Thanks, guys.
